This just released: Millions of fans have been “patiently” waiting for the arrival of the new Doctor. Today, SPACE announces the wait is over as the Eleventh Doctor takes up his residency with a new series of DOCTOR WHO starting Saturday, April 17 at 9 pm ET, exclusively on SPACE.

In this 13-part season, a whole new chapter of the iconic DOCTOR WHO franchise unfolds. Actor Matt Smith takes on the coveted role as the Eleventh Time Lord, embarking on new adventures with a new partner, the enigmatic Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

As one of SPACE’s highest rated series, DOCTOR WHO continues its tradition of rebooting with new lead actors and creative team.  Matt Smith debuts as the new, eleventh incarnation of the famous Time Lord alongside a new travelling companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

Award-winning writer Steven Moffat, creator of some of the most frightening and award-winning DOCTOR WHO episodes to date, takes over as lead writer and executive producer.  Writers for the new series include Richard Curtis (The Boat that Rocked, Love Actually), Chris Chibnall (Law & Order UK, Torchwood), Toby Whithouse (Being Human, Torchwood), Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen, Sherlock) and Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly, Hardware).

Don't forget that repeat viewings of the new Doctor Who series will be available online AFTER the broadcast at watch.spacecast.com.

Yes, we're all impatient to see to first episode of the new season of Doctor Who, but I've just taken a look at the schedule for April 17th and noticed something rather disappointing. Only one hour of time has been allocated for this episode. I've checked other websites and know for a fact that The Eleventh Hour has a running time of at least 64 minutes, without commercial breaks. There's no way that you're going to be able to fit that into an hour plus the obligatory commercials, unless you slice huge chunks (possibly whole scenes) out of the episode. With the exception of the 2009 Specials, this has been pretty much standard practice with most if not all of the Doctor Who episodes shown on CTV and Space, and I think that's a shame.

Hey lumparoo: "your so excited and giddy like a schoolgirl" over a a TV show? Spoken like a true fanboy that needs to get a life. The only thing that we have to thank CTV and Space for are constant reruns of the same half dozen movies over and over and the recycling of series shown on other CTV channels

Thanks, SPACE! Two weeks after the Easter broadcast in the UK is quite a stretch and it's going to be hard to not look it up elsewhere. Was almost hoping for an airdate like End of Time that was just two days after the episode. Well, beggers can't be choosers! Regardless of the time span, I'll be there. Every Saturday for 12 weeks!

I am so excited!!! Two weeks after the British broadcast and we'll get to watch NEW Doctor Who episodes!!! I'm giddy like a schoolgirl! I dealt with the loooong delays afforded us by another broadcaster, but I'm jubilant about this news. Thanks CTV and Space! Now, we only need you to start broadcasting Doctor Who in HD and we'll all be happy.

I would have liked to have the start date on Space to be before the start date on BBC America, but at the same time I know that two weeks is pretty good compared to the delay it's been in the past. And even if I do watch it online on April 3rd or 4th, I will be watching it on Space also, because that's how much I love Doctor Who, and it's not like I'm going to skip out on watching it on TV.

Finally! Something else to watch besides Star Trek and Stargate SG-1 reruns! Doctor Who is one of my favorite TV series. I'm glad Space finally has the right to air it. It should be a ratings booster. I only wish that we also get to see reruns from the David Tennant era. He was truly the best doctor ever!
