Sony and Lionsgate to Terminator Franchise: “Come with me if you want to live.”

Terminator Salvation producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek have sold the rights to the Terminator franchise to Pacificor, a California hedge fund with no movie making experience, for the low, low price of $29.5 million, outbidding both Sony and Lionsgate. Anderson and Kubicek’s company Halcyon Holding Group was facing bankruptcy due to a dispute with Pacificor who had financed their original purchase of the franchise in 2007.

Scream Awards Highlights

The stars were out Monday night at “SCREAM 2009,” the awards event honoring the best in fantasy, sci-fi, comics and horror. It was a big night for genre fans, and the highlights were numerous, including a BSG cast reunion (see video after the jump).

BSG Producer Harvey Frand Dies at 68

Battlestar Galactica: The Reimagined Series producer Harvey Frand has died at 68 after hospitalization for respiratory problems. Frand was with BSG from 2003, and was described as the "man behind the curtain" for the series.

io9.com's Annalee Newitz wrote an interesting article on why Battlestar Galactica didn't need space because it was social fiction, not science fiction.
