A new season, a new Doctor, and a new era

Warren Frey | 3/3/2010 4:52:30 PM

By now we’ve all seen David Tennant morph into Matt Smith, and been offered a tantalizing glimpse of the 11th Doctor as he hurtles towards the Earth in a burning TARDIS. But we really have no idea what to expect from the new series, even factoring in spoiler reports and leaked pictures of new and returning monsters. Speculation is not only our only course of action, it’s also loads of fun, so let’s begin.

David Tennant As Bilbo Baggins?

Pix Princss | 1/22/2010 12:42:59 PM

David Tennant made the news early yesterday dropping out of one of the leading roles in the movie Burke and Hare (a dark comedy set in 19th century Scotland). But the REALLY BIG RUMOUR is that he dropped it to play Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit".

Why Matt Smith as The Doctor is a Very Good Thing

Warren Frey | 1/18/2010 3:40:42 PM

So who is this Matt Smith guy, anyway? It's a fair question. Fandom let out a resounding "huh?" when the new Doctor was announced a little less than a year ago. Not only did the then-26 year old Smith go against incoming Doctor Who producer Stephen Moffat's oft-quoted claim that he was looking for an older actor to take on he role, but Smith himself was something of an unknown quantity.

David Tennant is This Generation’s Tom Baker

Pix Princss | 1/11/2010 4:25:04 PM

That may seem like a bold statement until you take a step back and look at
Doctor Who’s storied history in a larger context. When Tom Baker took the role in 1974, he was something of an unknown quantity, a tall and gangly question mark poised to fill the shoes of Jon Pertwee, the "man of action"
Doctor who ably rang the show into the Seventies. Likewise, Tennant took over for the broody and intense Christopher Eccleston, who ably shepherded the show back into existence in 2005.

This Podcast is All About Who

Pix Princss | 12/31/2009 12:23:49 PM

This week's podcast is bigger on the inside, and dedicated to the phenomenon that is Doctor Who.  Comedian and Doctor Who fan Mike Moses is joining me for the podcast where we discuss everything Whovian. Stay tuned for Mark's interview with executive producer and writer Russell T. Davies. Mark starts by asking him about the moral dilemma of THE WATERS OF MARS, and finishes by asking him about his mandate in writing THE END OF TIME. Finally, the fine gentlemen from Radio Free Skaro will be marking the end of David Tennant's tenure as the tenth Doctor, the most popular Doctor since Tom Baker.

Ok Ok so we have a date - the 19th Dec 2009 - I saw the ad last night on Space stating Dr Who (presumably the second episode) was to air then. Too bad the web site (Space) is NOT up to date!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing more Dr. Who and Torchwood on Space... Hmmm Speaking of which, when are the new Torchwood episodes comming?

I agree with the comments below! Tell us! I'm growing increasingly impatient... I'm still haunted by the 7 months it took to decide when to air Torchwood: Children of Earth. I'm at wits ends with the secrecy! lol

Yes, please - c'mon already! You must have had to make programming decisions for November and December by this time - why are you being so cagey about telling us? You've already said in your FAQ that Season 5 will be airing in the spring of 2010, so why not tell us when the specials are coming? Some of us may have some planning to do, y'know.

XMarks!

SPACE, please, now that Nov.15th has been revealed as the U.K. "Doctor Who: Waters of Mars" air date, let us know ASAP when we Canadians are going to get a crack at it. Will we get a quick airing like "Torchwood: Children of Earth" got, or a slow airing like the previous Specials? (i.e. Should I be seeking it immediately through the web, or quickly via our Space?) Also, while I'm asking, when will your airing of the regular series begin?

Briton, the next Doctor Who special airs in Europe in 12 days or on Nov. 15th. No word yet on a Canadian broadcast, but it'll air in America on December 19th. Then, the next special will air in Europe on Christmas Day and probably New Years Day. On this end of the pond, it could be another month or two behind.

Thanks "Tool". The "Next Dr" was from last year 2008/2009. I understand there to be three more subsequent to "Planet of the Dead". That is what I was inquiring about.

Briton, Space also aired 'The Next Doctor' as well.
