Last year’s Christmas Special was Doctor Who with a dash of Dickens thrown in, this year the BBC has gone with C.S. Lewis!  The Doctor himself says in the trailer that there’s a “forest in a box in the sitting room”, so the parallels to the beloved tales of Narnia are pretty obvious.  Of course we can’t wait to see what part the mysterious people in the yellow space suits will play in the tale, or what the menacing tree people are up to - we only get a very brief glimpse of them in the trailer but they could very well be the newest terrifying Who villain!

All day long on Christmas (December 25th), SPACE will be airing “Christmas with the Doctor”, also known as our present to you – a Doctor Who marathon!  We start with a replay of the whole sixth season.  Check out our schedule page if you’re looking for a specific episode.

Season six is followed by a BBC America special – Doctor Who: Best of the Christmas Specials which is a retrospective of the Christmas specials we’ve enjoyed since Doctor Who was brought back to TV in 2005.  If this gets you in the mood for a particularly classic episode, we’ll be airing all of them starting at 10:15, full schedule below!

Finally of course we’ll be airing the brand new “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe" at 9pm ET! If you tune in to one thing this Christmas, make it this!  The official plot synopsis is as follows:

It’s Christmas Eve, 1938, when Madge Arwell comes to the aid of an injured Spaceman Angel as she cycles home, in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, starring Matt Smith as the Doctor.

He promises to repay her kindness – all she has to do is make a wish.

Three years later, a devastated Madge escapes war-torn London with her two children for a dilapidated house in Dorset. She is crippled with grief at the news her husband has been lost over the channel, but determined to give Lily and Cyril the best Christmas ever.

The Arwells are surprised to be greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world. Here, Madge will learn how to be braver than she ever thought possible. And that wishes can come true…
