Make the Most of the 12 Days of SPACE-Mas

You might be running around making last minute preparations for the holidays, you might be dreading/looking forward to or simply ignoring family gatherings… or you might even be passing this month of December as you would any other month - but you would have to be a real Scrooge to ignore the warm, inviting glow of the 12 Days of SPACE-Mas.  Every year the SPACE programming elves toil away in their workshop in the North Pole Toronto to bring a wondrous mix of movies, TV and specials straight to all your televisions, all at the same time (take that, Santa!)

In order to prepare you for the influx of holiday cheer, we've written up a primer of what to expect each day.  That way, you can plan your holiday without having to miss your favourite marathon or show!  Of course we’ll be posting some shorter blogs that go into further detail as each marathon date approaches, so keep a close eye on spacecast.com for those!

On the first day of SPACE-Mas we bring you an imaginary rivalry of truly epic proportions.  In our Comic Book Hero Marathon, Thor and Batman compete for your attention on the airwaves. This super hero saturated marathon runs all day Thursday December 22nd.

On the second day of SPACE-Mas, the movie madness continues… but this time we get pre-historic.  From 11am on Friday December 23 to 4:55 am on the 24th it’s our Dino-Might marathon. Of course, what’s a dino centric marathon without the Jurassic Park films?  All three will play back to back with the first starting at 12:55pm!

On the third day of SPACE-Mas, we invite you to bring along the young ones to our Family Fantasy marathon. We’ll be airing both parts of Neverland, plus Beetlejuice and E.T.  If the kids in your family haven’t seen these classics, you can be the awesome aunt/uncle/cousin/parent who introduces them! The family fun goes down from dawn till dusk (and beyond!) Saturday December 24.

On the fourth day of SPACE-Mas, the Doctor comes to town.  All day December 25th we’ll be airing the Doctor’s latest adventures – with the whole sixth season starting at 7:30am and leading us right into Doctor Who – Best of the Christmas Specials.  Of course the part of this paragraph you’re looking for is this: right after that special SPACE brings you the brand new 2011 Christmas Special The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.  Can it top the festivity of last year’s?  Will it be enough to tide us over until season 7?  All these questions and more - answered December 25th at 9pm ET!

On the fifth day of SPACE-Mas (and indeed the sixth as well) SPACE is taken over by rabid giant mutant killer creatures!  That’s right, it’s the Beast Feast marathon.  Bringing you such film classics as Mega Shark vs. Gatoroid and the zombie sheep opus Black Sheep, these two days are guaranteed to make you never want to leave the safety of civilization again!

On the seventh and eigth days of SPACE-Mas, Merlin casts a spell… on our hearts.  If you haven’t caught up with everyone’s other favourite wizard (sorry Gandalf) December 28th and 29th will be stuffed to the brim with Seasons 1 and 2 of the beloved BBC series.  Since Season 4 starts up on January 7th, we wanted to give fans a chance to truly catch up.  If you missed any of Season 3 it will be airing all day leading up to the new episode at 8pm ET.

On the ninth day of SPACE-Mas, Magnus and her crew fight off governments and save Abnormals too! The entire fourth season of Sanctuary starts with Tempus at 11am Friday December 30th and concludes with the final three brand new episodes: The Depths and Sanctuary For None Parts 1 and 2!

On the tenth day of SPACE-Mas (and the eleventh too, for fun), humanity is tasked with defending against all kinds of metal menaces.  The Man vs. Machine marathon shows us what might happen if metal could talk – and wanted to kill us. Enjoy a plethora of movies like Transformers, Starship Troopers, I, Robot and more!

Finally on the twelfth day of SPACE-Mas we bring you a marathon featuring the most charming guy to grace time and space: Captain Jack Harkness. On January 2nd, we bring you both Torchwood: Children of Earth and Torchwood: Miracle Day back to back, all day long!

Once the twelve days of SPACE-Mas are over… well we don’t even want to think about that right now.  Happy holidays, everyone!

  • Just how many times can you show same movies or programs, over and over again? The 12 days of Spacemas is nothing but 12 days of repeats, thanks but no thanks! On a good note kudos on playing Santuary today, although to be honest there is nothing but a black screen on my tv for the last hour, why? Is anyone at work there to see this or not?

  • The plural for Jedi is Jedi not "Jedis" as shown in one of your Spacemas commercials. Is anyone at Space a real Star Wars fan?

  • So many great marathons to look forward to this year! Although, tbh, I would rather watch S1&2 of Torchwood than 3&4. Still, I won't say no to Captain Jack!
