LIEUTENANT SHARON VALERII (BOOMER)
Boomer is the squadron's rookie. She's a talented pilot with a reckless streak and a secret.
A Raptor pilot on the Battlestar Galactica, she is just out of flight school but shows incredible tenacity and natural skill as an officer.
In Season One, Sharon has a secret relationship with Chief Petty Officer Tyrol on board the Battlestar Galactica who dumps here after their relationship draws too much flak from fellow officers.
In the middle of the first season we realise that Sharon/Boomer is indeed a Cylon when a replicant of her appears in Caprica. She appears ostensibly to rescue Helo, her co-pilot who was stranded on the planet (in the miniseries) after he gave up his seat to Dr. Baltar.
On Cylon-occupied Caprica, Helo and Boomer flee the Cylon forces, and fall in love in the process. When Helo discovers her true identity, his reaction is complicated by the revelation that she is pregnant.
The Sharon/Boomer on Galactica, however, did not know she was a Cylon, even though a growing number of incidents made her question her true nature. Her confusion and fear that she would harm others culminated in a failed suicide attempt. Ultimately, she was right not to trust herself: In the final episode of Season 1, she shoots Adama.
It seems that the "Sharon" model is the most "human" of the Cylons, able to form a true bond with humans. Sharon's identity as a Cylon also opens the possibility that there are other human-model Cylons aboard the Galactica, some of whom might still be unaware of their true nature.
Galactica Sharon was a sleeper agent who seems to lack the self-awareness of the Caprica model. Caprica Sharon, however, seems to be governend by free will - she falls in love with Lt. "Helo" Agathon and gives birth to a half-human child, whom she initially believes to have died. She finally discovers her baby, Hera, is alive in Season 3, and kills herself in order to regenerate aboard the Cylon ship and save her child.
While Galactica Sharon "Boomer" struggles with her attachment to humanity, but continues to live among the Cylons, Caprica Sharon lives on Galactica, given a new call sign "Athena" seems to have fully defected to the Human side, both in her marriage to Helo and her acts of valor and loyalty to Adama.
