Colonial Raptors locate the planet Kobol, the legendary birthplace of mankind. Adama and Rosling battle over the benefits and dangers in unlocking the planet’s ancient mysteries. .
The wear and tear of life on the run has caught up with everyone on the fleet and is affecting them in diverse ways. Adama and Lee attempt to stave off their tension in a boxing match, and Karaand Baltar engage in a sexual romp where Kara is so distracted, she calls out the wrong name (Lee’s name), which insults Dr. Baltar so much that he walks out on her.
The news is far more grim for LAURA, who learns that her cancer has progressed and that her time is running out. Laura confers with Elosha, and is oddly comforted when the prelate persists in her faith – that Laura is the one who will save the fleet and ultimately lead the embattled survivors of mankind to the promised and of Earth.
Meanwhile, life for Sharon on Caprica is a bloody mess. Helo is beside himself, having just learned that the love of his life is in fact, an enemy Cylon. His gun is trained on his beloved, and Bang! He shoots her down. Now, maybe he wasn’t aiming to kill or maybe it’s just the luck of the Cylons, but Sharon survives the gunshot. As Helo nears the wounded Sharon, she pledges her love for him and reminds him that he needs her as only she can get him off this planet. And Helo wants nothing more than to get off this planet.
Sharon on Galactica is about to end her stress and the constant fear that she will hurt someone. She sticks a gun in her mouth. Will she pull the trigger..? Should she pull the trigger..? A call comes in for her to report to duty, and Sharon decides to live another day. She and Crashdown are sent into space, and they Jump their Raptor harrowingly close to a strange new planet. They study the planet’s surface and Crashdown ponders, “Could this be Earth?” Sharon knows it’s even more important. The planet is Kobol.
But no one is saying that just yet…
On Galactica, the pilots and crew and Baltar play a friendly game of cards. When Kara approaches, however, Baltar stings her with a few not-so-friendly jibes and she refuses a seat at the table. Lee senses something, and later seeks out Kara to bother her even more about her personal life. He teases her about her tryst with Baltar, something she’d rather he not know about. Their conversation ends with Kara hitting Lee and Lee hitting her back. They retreat to neutral corners, angry and petulant and ever-determined to deny the sexual tension that is increasing between them.
Baltar is still feeling burned, and Number Six calls him on it. She suggests that he might be interested in Sharon, a sleeper Cylon agent known only to him. A regular moth to the flame, Baltar visits Sharon in her quarters, and there she is again with that gun in her mouth . Is this a bad time? Baltar enters anyway and sees a unique opportunity here.
Sharon is desperate, vulnerable, and armed. Baltar is always scared that his bogus Cylon test on Sharon will come back to haunt him, and he takes advantage of the situation. He hears Sharon’s lament, and tells her to listen to her heart, which he knows is giving her very bad advice. Baltar then leaves her, and as he walks away with Number Six at his side, they hear the gunshot coming from Sharon’s quarters.
Word of the newly discovered planet has reached Laura and Elosha and they study the aerial shots retrieved by the Raptor. To the naked eye, the photos reveal ancient ruins, but to Laura’s chamalla-enriched vision, the photos depict a beautiful city. Elosha prods Laura into describing what she sees in detail. Laura notes a domed building, and roads, and a forum similar to the one on Caprica. Laura and Elosha have no doubt – this planet
is Kobol, significant in the sacred scrolls as the origin of man and a key to their future. Laura now tells Adama that in order to find the way to Earth, they must use the Cylon Raider to retrieve the sacred arrow of Apollo from Caprica – and bring it to Kobol to open the Tomb of Athena. This scheme does not go over well with the Commander.
He’s not about to let Laura’s belief in the scriptures guide his fleet anywhere. He insists that the Raider is a military asset and rejects Laura’s plan. Adama does send the Raptors down to explore Kobol, and among the ground crew is Tyrol, Crashdown, and Baltar. But there is big trouble ahead. The Raptors are bombarded with Cylon Raiders and menaced by a Cylon baseship hovering nearby. The planes are crashing and burning as they plummet to the surface of an unknown, hostile planet.
