EPISODE 8 : “Blink”

When Stark (Ed Quinn) pits two research teams against each other, he gets a made- in- Eureka result that is as disturbing as it is mind-blowing. Will a top-secret drug give Eureka’s townsfolk a competitive edge or a dangerous addiction?

As the situation escalates, Carter’s (Colin Ferguson) daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson) and Allison’s (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) son get caught in the crossfire. Synopsis: It’s Monday morning in Eureka and Café Diem is hopping with townsfolk looking for their daily java fix. Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Zoe (Jordan Hinson) wander in and find they are the main attraction in Eureka’s weekly town briefing. Unnerved by the spotlight, Carter announces his plans for a pick-up baseball game and introduces Zoe, who is immediately humiliated. But all is not lost as she’s introduced to local heartthrob, Dylan (Tom Tames). At Global Dynamics, Stark (Ed Quinn) and Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) discuss the pressure he is under to complete a top-secret project on time.

Meanwhile, a call from Deputy Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra) sends Carter to the scene of a bizarre car accident. The driver at the scene says something on foot and invisible ran into her moving automobile. A swath of destroyed vegetation in the adjacent woodlands and a badly mangled body could make the woman’s claims seem almost…possible? How could a human being move that fast? A computer chip embedded in the corpse suggests the victim was involved in some very high-tech research. While Carter, Jo and Henry (Joe Morton) decide to get Allison involved in their investigation, back at Global Dynamics, Stark applies pressure to his competing research teams. Fargo (Neil Grayston), who’s heading up one team, seems overwhelmed and exhausted but Milton (David Quinlan), the other team’s leader, appears confident and full of energy.

Fargo is growing suspicious that the opposing team may be up to something. At the accident scene, Carter is clearly infuriated when Stark, alerted by Allison, moves in and takes over the investigation. When Henry produces a high-tech device that may yield information, Carter is encouraged and decides to keep their information from Stark. On the other side of town, Zoe is enjoying her new school and Dylan’s attentions. Stark, however, has a new problem. Turns out the accident victim was part of Milton’s research team and his death could be due to the drug their leader had them taking — MPH. Carter’s distrust of Zoe’s paramour, Dylan, soon goes beyond normal fatherly concern when Carter finds out he had access to a Global Dynamics’ lab and was supplying Milton with MPH. Where does the MPH trail lead?
