PILOT(1&2)
Eureka is the quintessential American small town with clean streets, polite children and a tree- lined town square. Could all of this perfection be real, or is it a carefully crafted facade? When U.S. Marshal Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) gets lost transporting his runaway teenaged daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson) back to Los Angeles, a freak accident propels them off the road and into Eureka. Leaving the wrecked car, they trudge into town and immediately sense that things around here are just a bit odd.
Carter drops Zoe off at the local Sheriff’s office, where they make introductions with Sheriff William Cobb (Maury Chaykin) and his temperamental deputy Josephina (Jo) Lupo (Erica Cerra). Turns out Zoe was caught impersonating a flight attendant and dear old absentee dad was called to haul her back to his estranged wife in LA. With Zoe ensconced in a cell, Cobb calls Henry Deacon (Joe Morton), Eureka’s mechanical wizard, to work some magic on the Marshal’s car.
Soon after his arrival, Carter goes into full law enforcement mode when he comes across the investigation of a missing child. Seems little Brian Perkins has quite literally vanished into thin air. Last seen climbing aboard the family motor home, Brian was waiting for his parents when a mysterious and destructive disturbance tore the back end of the vehicle clean off, leaving little evidence of the child’s whereabouts. Ever the lawman, Carter starts to investigate but is quickly stopped when Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) arrives at the scene. Her Department of Defense credentials and take-charge attitude immediately get under Carter’s skin. But when Carter finds Brian hiding in the RV’s storage compartment, Allison is reluctantly impressed . While Carter and Allison spar, Cobb gets a call from Jim Taggart (Matt Frewer), Eureka’s slightly off center dogcatcher. Taggart located the rear half of the motor home in some forest land miles from the initial disturbance. Allison deposits Carter at Beverly Barlowe’s Bed & Breakfast, which seems like any other Victorian guesthouse, that is until Carter spots a very Presidential- looking helicopter lifting off in EUREKA TP120 Pilot 2 the backyard. When Beverly (Debrah Farentino) enters, she’s coy about the passengers in the helicopter, but then again she’s the town’s resident psychotherapist and not likely to dish on clients.Another disturbance hits Eureka, but this time there’s a body count and a seriously injured Sheriff. Allison lets Carter in on a few of the town’s secrets in an effort to get him to fill in for the ailing Cobb. Seems the sheriff’s job in Eureka is a lot more than just speeding tickets and noise complaints. Whether due to curiosity, his lawman’s sense of responsibility or just Allison’s charm, Carter agrees and signs a massive non-disclosure agreement.
Allison immediately takes Carter to Eureka’s Global Dynamics Advanced Research Facility, a secret, government-sponsored think tank headed up by Warren King (Greg Germann). It doesn’t take long for Carter to inquire about top secret projects — could something at Global Dynamics be causing the deadly disturbances plaguing Eureka? King immediately insists that “Section Five” — the military wing of Global Dynamics —could not be involved.
The Pentagon has been closely monitoring the situation in Eureka and given the likelihood that these disturbances could spread, dispatches some serious brass in the form of the tough-as-nails Colonel Briggs (Garry Chalk). With the military breathing down their necks and an aura of impending doom keeping Carter and Allison on their toes, will science or some good old fashioned police work put an end to the terror and destruction facing Eureka?
