We first told you that Steve Furguson is a larger than life personality. So large , in fact, that we had to break down his collection into three parts. In Part TWO of Steve Ferguson's collection, his imagination gets the better of him as he reveals close to 300 cartoon drawings of all of his favorite animated characters. From Hanna-Barbara to Warner Brothers to DC to Marvel, If you watched them on Saturday mornings as a kid, you're sure to find them on the walls of Stave Ferguson's basement.
Natasha: "hey there, toysters. Remember this monster-sized collection ?
Natasha: "well, as promised, we're back to show you more of Steve
Ferguson's collection. You may find this room has a lot of character.
Natasha: "so, we've seen what's behind door number one. What's behind door number two?"
Steve ferguson: "okay, carol merrill, come on in. This is a sort of a
Monster room/toy room/cartoon/action figure sort of combined."
Natasha: "wow."
Steve: "Only because I'm running out of room in the basement. I've always had an affinity for cartoons, warner bros. AndHanna-barbera, primarily. Through the '60s, there was a lot of it on tv and, um, it was just a great time to grow up in. Most of these have stuck in my mind over the years and, uh, I sort of redesigned the room down here and I had some space on the wall. I didn't know what to do, so I just started drawing. And I wanted to hit 300. And there's 299 on the wall, so I have one more to go, and then I can start working on the floor."
Natasha: "The floor? I can believe that."
Steve: "Most on the bottom is, like, the Scooby gang, and these are All the Scooby-Doo villains, probably pretty much from the First two years-- at the bottom, over to there. I did all the sketching first and then I went around with the white. You work from light to dark because you want to cut in with the darker colours. Anything that was white, I went around and did eyes and teeth and hair, anything that required white. And, um, the problem with the yellow walls-- I almost had to paint these three times because, unfortunately, I didn't prep this wall, and it's an oil base and I used water-based acrylics, so it didn't adhere."
Natasha: "ah."
Steve: "and the wood was a different story. It was quite easy on the wood because you could get it to absorb right into it. And there's a series-- a set of creatures over here that-- these are a lot of my
Favourites. Bruce campbell from army of darkness, just a classic movie. And then we have Kurt Russell from the thing. Hannibal lecter.
And this predator I really like. He's sort of in a crouch position on the top of the group of some gargoyles, just kind of a cool pose. A pumpkinhead in the back that i've been working on. The demon from bald mountain from a disney film, fantasia, the final sequence. And probably one of my favourite kits as well would be Vincent Price from the pit and the pendulum. And of course, young
Frankenstein with Peter Boyle, gene wilder and Marty Feldman as Igor."
Natasha: "and if you like this artwork, wait till you see what else Steve's crafted in the last part of his collection tour."
