On set of 'Supernatural' Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and writer Ben Edlund give us some insight into the upcoming season 4, and what has given the show some of its huge popularity over the past three years. In the second clip, they wax poetic about urban legends, their own belief in the paranormal, and the impact the fans have had overall.
Jensen Ackles
Getting signed for 4th Season:The fourth season feels good; you just go home and hope you still have a job. It's a nice pat on the back to get four seasons.
Why it's successful:
I can't put a finger on the success; you never know what's gonna work or not; the network and studios like us so that helps; I don't know, you never know if this'll have a shot.
Cult Classic:Because of the genre horror/sci-fi, the fan-base is kind of what separates us from cult shows; it's more of a horror show, we don't keep the unknown a mystery; that separates us from the pack.
S3/New Characters:
We pick up in S3 where S2 left off where Dean makes a deal with the devil to bring his brother back to life in exchange for his soul. It's a bit of a predicament, I don't know if it'll resolve itself; that's where we're headed, a run against time. Dean has a year left to live, Sam wants to save him; Dean's like 'let's go to Vegas'! The dynamic's changed between the characters, they're continually evolving. There are some new characters, Bella, Ruby. They're great additions, thrown curveballs. But they still go town to town, find people in distress and save them.
Motel Scene (embargo till later)
Today we're doing the motel scene; it's there to explain what's happening and how to fix it; it's an expositional scene; dean and Sam are going through the research, trying to battle the demons; Dean gets a phone and finds out the person holding the contract on his head is in town; Dean believes him, he starts realizing that he doesn't want to die; his stomach is flipping.
Dad phone call
They find out their Dad's back, the caller is their father who died in S2, phone call from the dead is weird; they have to figure out how to deal with that.
Ghost Facers scene/set/episode 13:
This set is used a lot; the characters are constantly traveling so we constantly need new sets; we just finished filming ep 13; they took all the crew out, they gave the actors hi def cams and filmed the whole scene like that; no close ups, no two-shots; This one's called Ghost facers.
Memorable episodes:
They all become one big episode but certain things set them apart; you remember certain scenes that you did; the beginning episodes stand out.
When he got to know his character:
One episode called "Dead in the water", it was the 1st episode Kim Manors directed, I really got to know the layers of Dean.
Dean Vs. JensenIn the beginning I used a bit of myself for him but he's taken off.
Azezle?
Last we've seen of Azezle; don't know if he'll come back.
Trust writers:
I don't like to predict what's gonna happen, I usually eat my words; I trust the writers.
Lots of stories to tell:
There are an infinite number of urban legends to tell stories around; you can bring the same ones back in different forms; there are unlimited possibilities.
Want to go out on top:
Sma and Dean with walkers? I don't know how far it'll go; we don't want it to be spread too thin; we want to go out on while we're still on top; lot's of people here adhere to that.
What he likes about the show
I like the dynamic between the brothers; the love/hate relationship.
What if he ran into a ghost:
I used to be a realist, used to think there were logical explanations for everything; if I do run into a ghost, I'll know what to do.

I do believe there's more out there than we know but I don't know; there're lots of unexplained things but I'm on the fence; Supernatural fans thank us for creating the forum for people to share their common interests; love widely loved topic.

More often than not, I have a nosebleed when shooting this show.
Big fights/episode 14/season 3:
Filming of ep 14 season 3, both been in huge fights, we're a little worse for wear, bloodied and bruised up.
BG of show up to now:
Supernatural is a supernatural show but also about relationships between the brothers; in the beginning, we don't see eye to eye. I want to go to college, he wants to fight demons, they end up on the road together; they become closer but they butt heads. They've gone through a lot over the last 3 seasons; Dean's died for Sam, now what he's going through.
Sam's Demon powers:
Season 2 finale says Sam has demon blood, has powers in S1, heard from yellow-eyed demon 'you will lead all demons'. He struggles with that, he wants to be human but he might not be.
Busy long days:
Jensen and I work everyday, too tired to think of anything else; relationships take second fiddle.
Days off:
Easy days here and there; might get a day off; we're in all the time.
Ruby/Bella:
Great to have guest stars; Ruby and Bella have plot lines that involve us.
Season 3 finale/cliffhanger
There's going to be a huge battle; season finale goes to Dean's contract, something has to happen; we're gonna have to fight forces coming after Dean; big cliff hanger, lots of stuff happening.
Eric Kripke, 5yr. plan
I don't know much but there's a five year scheme for the show; Kripke wants to tell the story in 5yrs if that's what we get; he doesn't just ask questions but answers as well; not scared to kill off characters.
Mary Winchester
What happened to Mary Winchester, we'll find out in season 4; is she mistaken or does she know in the 1st season; is it her fault the boys got into it.
Same changes/becomes more action
Sam in for some changes; needs to be more action
Sam's girlfriends
Kripke's clear when Sam falls in love, bad things happen to the girl; his history with girls throughout the seasons.
Ep "Heart"
Episode "Heart" was a Sam-heavy show; he had a relationship with a girl who was a werewolf; got naked in a scene so Jared had to "watch his girlish figure".

4th season look ahead:
Each season progression we've turned it up; writers and actors more comfortable; next season, no holds barred; hoping that 4th helps get the 5th season and we'll keep rocking ass.
