1-2 Sleepless in Seattle
Kyle does not understand sleep. He lies in bed all night long. Kyle is bored and wishes to learn and do more.
Going downstairs to the kitchen Kyle begins to make a mess of the refrigerator by sampling a whole bunch of different foods. Once he is full he goes to the couch where he accidentally turns on the TV to a karate movie. The noise from the movie wakes up the family who wonders downstairs to find Kyle practicing karate moves and speaking in Chinese.
Afterward, the family is cleaning the kitchen and asks if he had trouble sleeping. Kyle tells them he has not slept at all since he got to the house, which is around a week.
The next morning at breakfast Josh begins his theory that Kyle is an alien and that is why he can’t sleep. The idea of time is also confusing to Kyle.
A detective comes by the house to interview Kyle about where he comes from and what he remembers. Kyle does not provide any information because he does not remember who he is or where he comes from. Also, no one has files a missing persons report to the police department. Nicole theorizes that some traumatic event happens to Kyle that caused his amnesia.
At the juice bar Lori and Hillary discuss Kyle. Hillary suggests using Kyle to make her boyfriend, Declan jealous which seems to work.
At the doctor’s office Nicole shows the doctor the scans of Kyle’s brain, which he immediately discounts as an error because there is too much brain activity. The doctor notices he has perfect teeth and maybe he has veneers. They theorize about Kyle’s missing belly button. Physically Kyle is in excellent condition, mentally his health is still in question. Nicole is more concerned about Kyle not sleeping so the doctor prescribes a strong sleeping pill. While they are talking Kyle completes a complex puzzle fast and receives a round of applause from the people in the waiting room.
At the house Nicole has an idea to help Kyle remember where he comes from. She gives him a blank drawing paper and colors and tells him to draw anything about where he came from, his home. Kyle begins to draw. Hours later he is still drawing and Nicole theorizes that it seems like Kyle simply takes a picture in his head and reproduces it one dot at a time to recreate the image in his head. All of his drawings seem to be from the woods where he was first found.
At night at the Trager household they try different methods to get Kyle relaxed and ready for bed. Nicole gives Kyle Chamomile tea. Stephen gives Kyle a hot bath. About to go to bed Kyle messes with the radio where he hears white noise on the radio. Nicole gives Kyle the sleeping pill. Near midnight though Kyle is still awake so he decides to go downstairs. Not wanting to touch anything inside the house and get in trouble again, he walks outside.
Outside Kyle notices the stars. He walks and notices a man in a red truck following him. A barking dog scares away the man in the truck. Kyle calms the barking dog by looking at him. The next door neighbor Amanda is at her window and can’t sleep either. They have a conversation and she tells Kyle that she is certain Kyle’s family is looking for him. Kyle goes back to the house where he encounters Lori who is trying to sneak out to meet Declan. Hearing the commotion Nicole and Stephen awaken to find Lori in full make-up and Kyle standing beside her. They send Lori off to her room and put Kyle back to bed where they learned he was outside the house.
In the morning the family is awaken to find Kyle was not in bed again. They find him sitting in the lawn and he replies that he is waiting to go home. Nicole and the doctor are confused why the sleeping pill didn’t work.
Declan visits Lori at her server job and is upset why Lori ditched him last night.
In an effort to tire out Kyle, Stephen takes Kyle out running; they have a conversation about stress. Kyle out runs Stephen fast and he did not feel tired at all while Stephen is exhausted.
Back at the house Nicole examines Kyle’s drawings. Nicole and Stephen agree to stay up throughout the night to keep an eye on Kyle. Lori explains sarcasm to Kyle. Nicole and Stephen put Kyle to bed but Kyle has trouble sleeping because his mind keeps racing with thoughts even though his body is beginning to ache. Nicole tells Kyle to count backwards from 100,000 to help him sleep. In the morning Nicole wakes up to Kyle who is still awake and counting backwards. She notices they have overslept and goes to her room to wake up Stephen but, it is too late and he misses his important meeting. He is angry and complains that Kyle is like a baby who does not belong to them. Kyle over hears them and runs away.
They search throughout the day but, neither the Tragers nor the police can locate Kyle. Nicole thinks that Kyle may have gone back to the woods where he was found (the pictures he drew) because that is the only place he has been.
At night they go to the woods and find Kyle where he first awoke. He explains on top of the tree stump staring at the starts that he is waiting for his family. Stephen tells Kyle that they did find him. The family takes Kyle home.
At the house Kyle is exhausted and finally understands sleep. Stephen advises him to find his place where he is comfortable. Kyle turns on the radio in the bathroom to white noise and falls asleep in the bathtub.
The end shot is a location near the tree stump where Kyle was and there is a skeleton covered in some brush.
