1-3 The Lies that Bind
As the morning begins in the Trager household Kyle’s sleeping in the bathtub disrupts the family’s morning routine. Lori claims she is running late for work. Kyle will go with Stephen to his office. While Nicole is about to leave the house she receives a call from Detective Breen. He tells Nicole that Kyle may be connected to a murder.
In the elevator Stephen receives a call and tells a white lie because he is late for his meeting with Brad, the CEO of the company, which shocks and confuses Kyle. Stephen tells Kyle to always tell the truth. Allison, the receptionist, informs Stephen the server crashed in the morning. Stephen leaves Kyle with Allison and tells him to draw. Back at the Trager household Nicole is looking at some pictures of a crime scene near where Kyle was first discovered.
Nicole theorizes that this has nothing to do with Kyle because the skeleton looks old but, Detective Breen informs her the bones have been tampered with indicating someone tried to cover up their tracks. Also, some flesh was left underneath the victim’s fingernails suggesting there was a struggle and the killer must have scratch marks on themselves. The Detective shows her a photograph of a security key card that was found near the remains in the woods and either belonged to the victim or the attacker.
It is a symbol that looks like a double helix with a circle inside. Lori is now with Declan in his hot tub. Lori lost her job because she skipped a shift and her parents don’t know about it. Lori wants to hang out tomorrow but, Declan says that he has to go golfing with his dad tomorrow. She finds out later he is lying to her. Kyle is still drawing at Stephens’ office. Kyle then wanders around past the Server Room and enters the room, hoping to be useful.
Stephen is still in his meeting with Brad who tells him the company is having trouble and will dump his division of mainly Stephen’s friends. He wants to notify them so they have enough time to look for new jobs but, Brad doesn’t want the stockholders to get scared because of the layoffs, so Stephen can’t say anything. Walking out of this meeting Stephen is confronted by Allison who can’t find Kyle.
They walk past the Server Room and see Kyle on the floor with equipment everywhere. Stephen rushes to the front desk to call I.T. while Kyle quickly is putting the equipment back together. Brad comes out of his office upset at the server situation and as he reaches the Server Room all the equipment is put back in place and working correctly.
At the house Nicole shows Kyle the photograph left by the detective of the security card. Kyle does not recognize it. Stephen and Nicole are about to discuss what the detective told her and are interrupted by Lori. She is about to leave when her dad asks her to look after Kyle tomorrow. Lori is upset by this and tells her parents that he is not part of the family.
Kyle over hears this as he steps into the kitchen and Lori semi apologizes. Kyle wanders into Josh’s room who claims to be doing math homework. Kyle helps Josh and finishes it for him. Josh explains he will change a few answers so no one will suspect that he received help. Kyle is confused. Josh tells him to keep this a secret.
In the workshop Nicole informs Stephen that Kyle may be linked to a murder in the woods where he was found and that whoever was responsible for the murder probably has scratches on him. While they are talking the guy in the red truck is eavesdropping on their conversation with electronic equipment. As he adjusts his listening equipment there are clearly scratch marks on his right hand. The next morning Stephen shows Nicole a newspaper article about the remains found.
The family leaves thinking Kyle is with Lori. Kyle is left sleeping in the bathtub while Lori and her friend Hillary are stalking out Declan’s house to see if he was lying. Kyle wakes up and no one is there. He turns on the satellite TV which is broken. He decides to fix it and he climbs up on top of the roof and fixes it. Meanwhile, Amanda is driving by the house and notices Kyle on top of the roof and he drops down effortlessly from the second story roof and is not injured.
Amanda doesn’t pay attention to the road and crashes into some trash cans. She is scared about telling her mother the truth. Kyle does not understand this. Lori comes running to Kyle and Amanda wanting to know what happened and if she is in trouble. Kyle informs her that her parents don’t know yet. The eavesdropping guy is walking to his truck and talking to someone on the telephone. He informs the caller they found Kern and his card. The police have not identified the body yet, because he made it difficult for them, time is needed to cover his tracks.
