1-6 Blame it on the Rain

There is a thunderstorm at night and Kyle is tossing in turning in his tub. He sees images and one of them is a man with a raincoat looking through the car window while it is raining. Kyle wakes up and someone is knocking on his bedroom window, he lets Declan inside who needs a place to sleep for the night. The next morning Kyle gets Lori and they try to sneak Declan out. Her mom is in the kitchen cooking her a birthday breakfast and as Declan is about to walk out Stephen comes downstairs, so he stays for Lori’s birthday breakfast.

In Kyle’s room he tells Nicole the rain is triggering nightmares. In the kitchen Nicole is baking Lori a birthday cake. Lori is not enthusiastic about her birthday. While Declan and Josh are playing video games and Stephen is looking on, Kyle hands Nicole a picture he drew of the man from his nightmare. In Kyle’s room Nicole and Kyle theorize about the possibilities of the man in the drawing. The last rainstorm to occur happened the night before Kyle was found in the woods, so he theorizes the memory may be from that night. Nicole is unsure but, Kyle is getting more frustrated with his lack of progress.

The power goes out and Stephen is outside checking the circuit breakers when Tom Foss approaches him. Stephen tells Tom that Kyle drew a person looking in the window and on finding footprints in the rain and blood on the window Stephen thinks this may be the same person who tried to break in last week. They go inside so Stephen can give Tom a picture of the man Kyle drew. In Lori’s room Declan and Lori have a conversation about his family and her not feeling happy on her birthday. They speak about Lori losing her virginity to him. Lori pushes Declan to find out what happened last night but, Declan resists.

While Kyle is drawing in his tub Amanda comes by because she doesn’t want to be alone while the power is out. They speak about his nightmare and she sits in the tub to ‘wallow’ with Kyle. In the kitchen Stephen gives Tom a picture of the man Kyle drew so Tom can check it out. While outside the house Tom phones someone that Kyle is starting to remember. In the living room Kyle, Declan, Lori, Josh and Amanda are bored since the power is still out and amuse themselves with board games. They use an Ouija board and try to find Kyle’s birthday but instead a series of numbers comes out- 781227.

Tom uses the cameras he installed to review what happened last night and views Declan sneaking in. The man on the phone threatens the Tragers if Kyle remembers more. Back at the house Declan then points out the rain stopped much to Kyle’s surprise. As they go outside. Kyle notices a sudden drop in the Barometric pressure and a rise of static electricity in the air. Kyle orders them all to run back inside the house and just then a lightning bolt strikes one of the flower pots a few feet away. Inside the house the electricity comes back on and they go their separate ways.

Lori and her mom have a conversation about Kyle and the numbers on the Ouija board. They also have a conversation about Declan and being a good friend to him and when she is ready to have sex. Lori tells her mother she is not ready. In the living room Amanda and Kyle are on the computer trying to find references to the number. Declan and Josh are playing video games when Josh theorizes about Kyle being an alien-human hybrid sent to take over the world. This angers Kyle and he confronts Josh about his notepad and how hurtful it is. Nicole walks in and sends everyone upstairs and she calms Kyle down.

The doorbell rings and Stephen lets in Tom. Kyle vaguely remembers him. Tom informs them of a hit and run in the neighborhood last night and one of the drivers fled the scene. Upstairs Lori confronts Declan about the hit and run last night and he confesses. He didn’t want to upset his father, he was scared. Lori convinces him to tell the truth. In Kyle’s room he is taking down his drawings because he can’t remember anything. Amanda convinces him to leave them up. Kyle asks Amanda to tell him about her Dad, they sit inside the tub and Amanda tells him of her dad. Upstairs Nicole and Stephen talk about Declan’s confession to the hit and run and Nicole informs Stephen that Lori is no longer a virgin because she surmised as much from their conversation.

Downstairs Lori is seeing Declan out when they have a conversation about having sex with each other. He was afraid of losing her. Later in the kitchen Nicole goes to get everyone for blowing out the candles and Kyle finishes putting the candles on the cake when Josh walks in. Josh is about to apologize but Kyle informs him he isn’t mad and Josh switches out the candles with trick candles. In the dining room as Lori is about to blow out the candles she asks Kyle to share her birthday with her until he finds out his. Lori tells him to make a wish and to keep it to him. His wish comes true as Amanda lightly kisses Kyle on the cheek.

The next morning at breakfast Kyle notices a newspaper Stephen put down. An article discussing a missing Professor Kern is the same man in Kyle’s nightmares. At Detective Breen’s office he is studying Kyle’s drawings. On the bulletin board is a missing poster of Prof. Kern. He puts down the security card with the unknown double helix symbol on it to speak to Nicole on the phone. On the back of the security card is the series of numbers Kyle discovered while using the Ouija board - 781227.
