Pros
Its art style is very cool. Load times are quick.
Cons
Limited amount of characters. Not as flashy as previous DBZ games. Not as deep as it's trying to be.

Interesting Info
If you've be playing videogames, you've come across fighting games. And if you've been watching TV you've come across Dragon Ball Z. The two have come together for their 5th installment in fighting games in the form of Super Dragon Ball Z. While this fighting game takes you in a different direction like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi did from Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, this one does a full 180 degree turn from what you are used to.

Super DBZ game is touted as a more serious fighting game like Tekken, Virtua Fighter & Street Fighter. However it never does that successfully. What they did was cut down on the big flashy moves which we were all impressed by, and simplified the multiple button-mashing game mechanics to more of a refined version of the first DBZ: Budokai, and that wasn't a very impressive version to begin with. All the characters share the same 4 button combos, throws and half-circle, z-circle special moves. So for example, if you are an expert playing with Cell in the game, it's an easy transfer to start playing as Gohan or 18.

Speaking of 18, that is how many characters there are. The roster has been reduced by 70% from the previous games. That is quite a letdown since many of your 2nd rate characters didn't make the cut. While the past games have been cel-shaded, this game is the best use of them all. Instead of using the art style of the anime, Super DBZ uses the art style of the original manga, so the hits of your attacks are spelled out on screen and hands and feet are slightly exaggerated. All around this is still a fun game to pick up and play. It won't stop you from playing Tekken or Soul Calibur, but it is still a good title to play every now and then, not expecting much.
