Masters of Science FictionA stellar lineup of actors and directors, along with one of the great minds of the science world, are set for the new hour-long anthology series, Masters of Science Fiction. In the vein of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, and narrated by acclaimed physicist Professor Stephen Hawking, SPACE will air all six episodes, including two episodes that have never aired in North America: Little Brother and Watchbird.
Academy Award nominee and Emmy nominee Sam Waterston, two-time Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Judy Davis, Anne Heche, Malcolm McDowell, Terry O'Quinn, Emmy nominee Clifton Collins, Jr., Sean Astin, Academy Award nominee James Cromwell, two-time Tony Award winner and Emmy winner Brian Dennehy, two-time Academy Award nominee John Hurt, and James Denton are cast in the six installments of the series, which were filmed in Vancouver, B.C.
Award-winning director Mark Rydell (On Golden Pond) and writer/director Michael Tolkin (The Player) directed the first two episodes. Directors for the subsequent four episodes include Harold Becker (Mercury Rising), Darnell Martin (Their Eyes Were Watching God), Michael Petroni (Til Human Voices Wake Us) and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Roswell).
Masters of Science Fiction is based on some of the genre's most popular and highly regarded short stories written by some of the most notable names in science fiction literature including Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein and HG Wells.
November 11 - Episode One: A Clean Escape A brilliant duel of wits between an Army psychiatrist (The Starter Wife's Judy Davis) and a forgetful patient (Law & Order's Sam Waterston), set 24 years in the future. The forgetful patient has blocked years from his memory, and his psychiatrist is determined to make him remember. Based on the short story by John Kessel, written by Sam Egan and directed by Mark Rydell. November 18 - Episode Two: Jerry Was a Man November 25 - Episode Three: The Awakening Outside of Baghdad, U.S. soldiers discover a mysterious casualty, one they can't even identify as human. Based on the short story by Howard Fast and stars Terry O'Quinn (Lost).
December 2 - Episode Four: Little Brother (North American Premiere) In the future, courtrooms exist without human judges or juries, and automated justice is the law of the land. Written and adapted for the screen by Walter Mosley and stars Clifton Collins, Jr. (Alias) and Kimberly Elise (Close to Home).
December 9 - Episode Five: Watchbird (North American Premiere)
December 16 - Episode Six: The Discarded A group of misfits banished into space aboard what amounts to a huge floating prison. Adapted by Harlan Ellison.
