Dungeons and Dragons was first published in 1974, and quickly won the hearts of geeks everywhere as an addictive and fun fantasy role-playing game. Every high school had its D&D-heads lining the locker room floors, armed with pens and paper and a multi-sided die, armed with their lexicon of orcs and wizards and magical items. The success of D&D led to the proliferation of RPG's, such as Tunnels and Trolls, while serving as an inspiration for games like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy. Peace out, Gary Gygax, may the sweet hereafter be no more than the roll of a polyhedral dice away. |
