I'm Mark Askwith, one of the producers at SPACE. You may have seen my work on HypaSpace, or on the 'one minute items' that show up on SPACE during the shows. Some of you may have been interviewed by me, or met me at a convention, and many of you know me as 'mask' on the SPACE message board.
This week I have had a very full plate. Three interviews this week, and I'm lining up some very exciting shoots in the next few weeks.
The big news here is, of course the launch of the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica.
This is one of my favorite shows, and it is so much fun to talk about the show with my co-workers at SPACE, many of whom are just as pumped as I am. I know that I'll be watching Friday night at 10 pm, and then fielding phone-calls from my over-excited friends.
A few weeks ago I walked into the office to see Grace Park sitting in my chair- that was a cheap thrill. I got to spend some time with both Grace and Katee Sackhoff. They were far 'girlier' than I imagined, and extremely nice. We chatted about BSG, their upcoming David Letterman appearance, and some mutual friends on the writing staff. What I loved most was how respectful they both were of the writers, producers and crew of the show, and I hasten to add. this was off camera!
Last week I had to get up before 6am to come in and moderate a BSG forum. While I wasn't keen on getting up so early, I had to be in make-up(!) at 7am, and then pre-interview the guests- Comedienne Elvira Kurt, Toronto Star columnist Malene Arpe, MTV Producer Teddy Wilson, and uber geek Mario Arrango. We chose these four from a huge pool of fans, and they have widely varying theories on what's in store for us for Season 4.
I just walked out of the edit bay, where I watched the whole show, and I'm thrilled that we pulled off a brand new format (for us) with a great deal of technical help from the whole building. I was particularly happy that the team pulled together for something (a forum) that we've never attempted before at SPACE. The forum aired on HypaSpace this weekend (video clip to be posted online soon!).
