MARK ASKWITH REPORTS

After the X-Files interviews, Darcy (my cameraman) and I went through another series of security checkpoints. Then off to the hotel. Check in. lunch. Load gear. Off to the Con.

The New York Comicon is held at the Javits Center, which I know well from my visits to the New York Toyfair. I was surprised at the size of the convention- it had doubled from the previous year, but it didn't feel too massive. We made our way to the DC booth, and I interviewed Dan Didio, Walter Simonson, and several others. I got to see the Watchmen movie action figures, and the new Batman and Joker movie figures. The final interview of the day was with Marc Guggenheim, a lawyer turned writer who co-created the Eli Stone tv show, and also writes Young X-Men (collaborating with Montreal artist Yanick Paquette). Marc was a delightful interview. Marc co-wrote the Green Lantern movie, and his take on Hal Jordan is so similar to my own (and Darwyn Cooke's), that I hope his script is successfully translated into film. As the convention floor began to shut down, Darcy and I exited, and returned to the hotel. We were off to a productive start!
