The New York Comic Con- Saturday- Gears, Narnia and Cylons

MARK ASKWITH REPORTS

My first interview on Saturday was at 9:30, and it was with Dr. Michael Capps, the President of Epic Games. I am a producer who really likes going out of my comfort zone and interviewing people about what makes them passionate, especially when I don't share that passion. I am not a video game guy. Years ago I dabbled in Asteroids and Donkey Kong, but these new-fangled stae-of-the-art first person shooters are beyond me. But I have many friends and colleagues who do play, so I got them to explain the Unreal engine and Gears of War to me. I decided to focus on questions about narrative and technology, and to discover what made a 'Game Guy' tick. Dr. Capps is an eloquent and passionate man, so this became my favorite interview of the convention. You'll see some portions of the interview as Gears of War 2 approaches.

Then it was off to interview Stan Lee. Stan needs no introduction to the SPACE audience, but after 20 years of interviewing Stan, he is just as energetic as ever. As the co-creator of much of the Marvel Universe, he has cameos in Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk movies, and he continues to team up with new companies to create new characters. We followed him out to the convention floor, and if you saw the footage on HypaSpace, you witnessed how many people greeted him. Amazing!

Then we settled in for interviews with the cast and crew of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Battlestar Galactica, and The Incredible Hulk. We also shot footage on the convention floor until the con floor closed.

Sunday was full of pressure. We had to get our interviews done before 2pm, so that Darcy could get back to the hotel, and make his flight. We interviewed a range of people from Robotech's Tommy Yune, to Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

I helped load the gear into a cab, and then I went back to the con to see some old friends. Their lament was that there were so many people that they didn't run across on the con floor, so I think that New York Comic Con is becoming a victim of its own success. At 5 pm I went back to the hotel, and then off to the airport.

Another convention wrapped, and in the can.
