Donnie Darko is getting a sequel, apparently called S. Darko. Entertainment Weekly reports the story will follow Donnie's younger sister Samantha (yes, the little one in the dance troupe), seven years later. Daviegh Chase has already signed on to reprise her role.

Samantha, now 18, is dealing with her broken family when she decides to flee town with her best friend (Briana Evigan of Step Up 2). The travelling duo is plagued by bizarre visions.

A rep from UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus says, "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits."

B-Movie fans might be pleased to know that Elizabeth Berkely (Showgirls) has signed on to play "a speed freak-turned-Jesus freak whose sentiments about ridding the world of its exponential sin are rivaled only by her infatuation with her dreamy pastor."

The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son Of Rambow, Gossip Girl), and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball).

No other original cast members will be making an appearance in the sequel, and FilmJunk.com reports that writer Richard Kelly is not involved at all, which leaves Donnie Darko fans wondering if this isn't an attempt to franchise a cult classic.

The project began shooting May 18 with Nightstalker's Chris Fisher directing.
