'The Earth can be any shape you want it.'

I interviewed Thomas Dolby today, and it was a big thrill!
I'm a fan of the 'science fiction headspace', and Thomas Dolby, to me, is one of the first steampunks, and one of the few musicians who can capture a science fiction element in their work without being obvious. His lyrics don't scream 'science fiction', but the atmospheric music does. I'll put a chunk of the interview up next week, as I'm going into the edit bay to put this together, but I don't get to interview rock stars every day, particularly ones I admire.

Dolby was in town for the NXNE, and to promote his CD/DVD deluxe set of 'The Sole Inhabitant', which is a live concert featuring some of his best songs including Hyperactive, She Blinded Me With Science, and my favorites, One of Our Submarines, which I'd put up there with J. G. Ballard's The Drowned World. It's also got a feature on how he puts a song together, an interview, and a very geeky tour of his equipment.

Thomas Dolby was a gracious interview, and we discussed SF, technology, and music. I even got him to talk about his love of classic Star Trek, and the secret inspiration for his friend J.J. Abrams' work.

It was a fun morning!
