Surreal Moment #1- Stan Lee is checking in at the lobby of our hotel.
We arrived, checked in, did some prep., then lined up in the press line for our badges. In the past this has been very quick- usually there are a dozen journalists.
This year it seems everybody who blogs wants press credentials. The line-up is massive, and takes over an hour. Other members of the team have to go an see a Death Race screening, so tensions are high.
Natasha has an 'in'- she had arranged an interview with a toy exhibitor, so she goes in, somehow getting her credentials immediately.
I'm finally 'Badged', so I join Natasha, and we go to work.
We interviewed some people waiting in line for Comicon toy exclusives, and then head over to the Mattel booth, where Natasha lights up- she gets to meet one of the designers of the original He-Man series.
After that we shot some cool booths- the SciFi booth looks like an alien slug on disco night- and then we made our way through the crowd to interview the Emmy nominated director of The New Frontier, David Bulloch, and his booth-mates Darwyn Cooke and Cameron Stewart. They were selling original art, and art books, and the booth was swarmed.
After that we lined up some interviews for later in the con, and stumbled off to dinner with a Toronto comic book retailer.
After dinner it was time for what has become an annual event for me. I went to the local supermarket to buy the food I'm going to eat during the day. I've learned the hard way that food on site takes too much time to get, costs too much, and isn't very healthy.
So it's granola bars, water, juice and apples for me.
Surreal Moment #2- Comic book creators shop at the supermarket too! Eagle-eyed fans would have spotted writer Greg Rucka, and artist Nick Derrington in the produce section.
Next- Thursday. the Con Embiggens.
