This would be my first blog for The Circuit, but I'm no n00b when it comes to writing them. I have been for over ten years now. I started back before they were called "Blogs" and just referred to as "Online Journals". That doesn't mean I was updating a Live Journal. I'm proud to say I've never had an LJ account. I've been coding my own websites for the past 12 years or so. Though as of late for my own blogging purposes I've switched over to Wordpress, which has forced me to have some kind of grasp on MySQL databases.
I've also been blogging for the past two years over on the website for YTV as the host of CRUNCH the Saturday morning block of programming. Perhaps you've seen it? Hey if you're here reading this you likely live in Canada and have an affinity for genre entertainment, so I'll bet Saturday morning cartoons still hold a place in your heart. They still do in mine. Truth be told however, when I landed the gig as host of CRUNCH I'd never seen an episode of Spongebob Squarepants and I hadn't actually watched YTV in years.
I feel a bit the same now that I'm stepping up to the helm of Starship "The Circuit". I'm not fully up to speed on some of the shows that air on SPACE channel. But rather than focus on what I'm not, let's talk about what I am. I am a Lostie. DS9 is my favourite of the Star Trek Franchise. The Hilarious House of Frightenstein is one of the best shows on Television. I'm starting to get into Torchwood and I grew up watching Doctor Who with my parents.
In fact it's my parents who are responsible for my love of Fantasy and Sci-Fi. They took me to see Star Wars when I was still in the womb. They read Elf-Quest, Lord of the Rings and the Dragonlance series at night to put me to sleep when I was little. Of course I was so interested in the stories I never fell asleep before they were done reading.
My dad got me started on Amiga Computers by the time I was 7. We went through 3 or 4 Amigas before I saved up enough money to buy myself a mac. Big mistake. Sold that one to a cousin and got myself a PC instead.
Over the years I've spent countless hours on IRC, built my own computers from components (and now that I've got myself a fancy new job I'm looking to upgrade if anyone out there knows good deals or can offer a discount on parts). I've created Quake mods, machinima and I still design and host websites as a side business.
I read geekologie.com, iwatchstuff.com, penny-arcade.com, shacknews.com and slashdot.org on the daily.
I am a game and film geek primarily with elements of music, comics and TV in there too.
I guess what this all comes down to is the people here at SPACE (who are awesome by the way) believe in me and offered me the opportunity to hang out with you on Friday nights for a half an hour and I hope you'll give me that chance too.
I would like to give you the opportunity to give me feedback. While over at YTV I encouraged it and took a genuine interest in viewer comments, and I plan to continue that practice over here.
To sum it all up. I'm Ajay and I'm very excited about this opportunity and I'm hoping that our communication can be full circuit.
