BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING vs. SFX (.ah crap).

TEDDY WILSON REPORTS

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:40

Hey SFX party people all up in tha hiz-ouse!!  Teddy Wilson from "The Circuit" here.  Sooooooooooooooo, you know what sucks?

Sucks when one of your best friends is getting married (out of town, and you're in the wedding party) on the same weekend as the biggest & raddest Sci-Fi convention in the country.  Sucks in a big way.

That was my reality this past weekend.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the love & martial bliss, etc, but missing the two main/best days of SFX when it's your first year working at SPACE is, well, I imagine it's as bad as finding out you're a Cylon then learning your very cute & very non-Cylon wife was sucked out of an airlock (no fun, as Tyrol will tell ya).

So while my intrepid colleagues (Sir Ajay Fry, Empress Natasha Eloi, Prince Paul Stachniak, and the rest of the SPACE gang) were hanging with other Sci-Fi lovers & doing kick-ass interviews with the likes of Edward James Olmos (I know!!), Wes Craven, Brent Spiner, Buzz Aldrin and tons more, I was coping with pre-speech nerves by chugging bad wine and trying to straighten my stubborn (and pink) tuxedo tie.

ANYWAY, I was able to make it back for Sunday's SFX festivities.  Hung-out at the SPACE table for the whole afternoon - met some very awesome, incredibly nice and finely costumed folks.  Everyone from Master Chief to Cobra Commander to Silk Spectre to Jango Fett to Wolverine stopped by our little corner of convention-madness. Chatted with Cameron Stewart & Ray Fawkes, the illustrator & writer (respectively) behind the new graphic novel "Apocalipstix" (watch "The Circuit" this week for my piece on the novel & the guys!!), as well as the folks behind "Box Wars" and the creators of the amazing "p-brane".  I was blown-away by how many people we had swing-by our table, and the vibe was a lot of fun.

All-in-all, given that I was only able to make it for the last day, it was a total blast.  I'd been to the convention each of the last 4 years to wander around and salivate at all the amazing stuff (and drop some hard-earned cash), but it was really wicked to be there for a bit this year as a SPACE-man.

I sincerely hope none of my friends find happiness & fall in love next year.

 Teddy

PS - the speech went fine, thanks for asking.
