I'm off to Calgary on Thursday to cover the Calgary International Film Festival and I've got lots to be excited about.
For starters, it's my first time going to Calgary, the city my younger brother had been calling home for the past 2 years (up until 3 weeks ago. Doh!). Secondly, it's got some cool movies that TIFF missed out on. Thirdly, SPACE is hosting a party with a 'black carpet' on Saturday. Finally the thing I'm most excited about is: Interviewing Tom Green about his new movie "Freezer Burn: The Invasion of Laxdale"
I've got a bit of an interesting connection to Tom Green. Not only did we attend the same high-school, but we also spent our comedic gestation years living on the same street in Ottawa. His parents lived there up until about 5 years ago, in fact.
I'd spotted him in the neighbour hood a couple of times and recognized my street when I saw it on TV but the fact that his parents still lived there was cemented the first time my parents ever let me drive the car by myself. I was to simply "take it once around the block".
I cautiously drove about half way around the block and then made my left turn to return home and was shocked to see Tom Green and his fiancée Drew Barrymore posing for photos on his parent's front lawn. My novice driving skills were put to the test as I tried to navigate through the sea of reporters and photographers snapping pictures of the couple. Fortunately I didn't run over either of them or the world would have gone without such gems as "Bob the Butler" and "Fever Pitch"
Anyway, I am very eager to ask him if he ever got the note I left for him the day he brought Monica Lewinsky to my high-school. Yes that's a true story but I think I'll include that one in my post on the Calgary International Film Festival.
That's all!
