As you'll see on the show this Friday, I got a chance to sit down and chat with Dave Gibbons, the artist and co-creator behind Watchmen.
I'd been introduced to him at Comic Con when "Watchmen" meant little to me. I hadn't yet read the graphic novel and I'd only seen the trailer for the film version online in tiny aspect ratio.
Though a few weeks back I was told I'd be interviewing Mr. Gibbons, and I should get started reading Watchmen so I'd know what I was talking about when I would interview him.
Having completed reading it just last Friday with a weekend to let it all sit in before the interview I was left with one clear feeling: I wish I'd read it sooner. It's probably up there in my top two or 3 books I've ever read. (Which I suppose isn't saying much because I'm not much of a reader and I can only think of a handful of books I have read. though that group does include 1984 and A Clockwork Orange).
I like books with strong messages, which ask questions and make you think about the world we're all a part of. Watchmen does that while being very entertaining and visually appealing.
I still felt a bit guilty for being given the chance to speak with him at length about the novel. Even though I'm now a huge fan, I know other people out there have been perhaps bigger fans, and have been for unquestionably even longer (given the comics came out when I was only 3 years old),
I just hope that my fanaticism (though new) does come across in my brief interview with him you'll see this Friday and our more lengthy segment taped for next week's show.
As for Mr. Gibbons himself despite all his success he's still humble and a 'regular guy'. He was warm friendly and agreeable and signed my copy of Watchmen complete with an amazing drawing of Rorschach! It was a pretty cool experience and I hope you all enjoy the interviews.
That's all!

P.S. He did mention something about a Watchmen video game. I'm eager for more details.
