What's On The Horizon

Friday, June 16, 2006 18:37

Have a look up in the sky just after dusk over the next few days. You should be able to see three planets, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn, depending on light pollution and atmospheric conditions. This is the best opportunity this year to catch the elusive first planet of our solar system. Mercury should be a tiny point of light in the west-northwest sky about 20 minutes after sundown. After Mercury sets, Mars and Saturn make their appearance. Saturn will be a bright point and Mars should be a rustic, less bright point of light. Both will be in the vicinity of the constellation Gemini, and should be visible to the naked eye, although binoculars or a small telescope should enhance the visual experience. Clear skies!
