This is a satellite image of the Welsh capital city of Cardiff, as seen by the European Space Agency's ALOS satellite. Cardiff, Europe's youngest capital (recognised in 1955), has its origins dating back nearly 2000 years when the Romans constructed a fort back in AD 75, on the spot where the Cardiff Castle is now located. This image is a visible and near-infrared composite taken from about 700 kilometres in altitude. The resolution goes all the way down to 10 metres. This shot was snapped on June 15.
