Saturn as never seen before

Cassini captures a view of Saturn that has never been seen before.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft sailed high above Saturn and captured an image of the rings spread around the planet. The above image's scale is 70 kilometers per pixel and the colors are natural.

The sunlit side of Saturn is white due to the overexposure that was required to properly capture the rings. The view looks towards the unlit side of Saturn's rings, from about 40 degrees above the ring plane.

The images, which were taken over the last two months, were released earlier this month. A movie sequence of the rings as they appeared to Cassini is also available.
