In celebration of Hubble Space Telescope's 17th anniversary, a huge panoramic image was released.

The image is a 50-light-year-wide view of the Carina Nebula. The central region of the nebula is a highly active spot of star births and deaths. The bright spot at the far left is Eta Carinae, which is in the last stages of its life. The gas and dust surrounding Eta Carinae are a preview of its upcoming supernova.

The image was assembled from 48 frames taken with Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys. Red represents sulfur, green is hydrogen, and blue is oxygen emission.
