The above images were taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope using very deep exposures then subtracting all known light sources. What is left behind is a glowing haze of light from no known sources. Astronomers say this could be the light from the very first stars.

The stars are extremely massive, a hundred or more times more than our Sun and up until now they have only existed in theory.
