King Kong Review

Pros
"Peter Jackson's King Kong" is more like two games in one. There are the Jack Driscoll first person shooter levels and the Kong action adventure bits. Both of these sections show off the incredible cinematic quality of the game. The graphics are some of the best ever for a console game and look outstanding on a HDTV. The sound follows the same amazing quality with great music and voiceovers by the actors from Jackson's movie. The game continues with the movie feel by not incorporating a heads-up display. This means no health bars, ammo counters or crosshair. This is all good but where great games earn their high score is the gameplay and "King Kong" is no different.

The Jack first-person sections feel original and fresh but nothing genre-changing. You solve some simple puzzles and collecting quests, which is a good mix from the normal FPS formula. Jack also has many weapons he can equip, including rifles, Tommy Guns and spears. All of these different gameplay attributes contribute to the completion of objectives. This first person section consists of about ¾ of the game but it's the other quarter that makes the game great. Here you play has the ape himself, Kong. This third person action is very much in the style of Prince of Persia. You do a little bit of jumping and swinging around the environment, find an angry V-Rex, or two, and release some of that Kong rage. You break jaws and spines, and all out beat up on the enemy -  all while trying to keep Ann safe.

Cons
The game can be a bit to dark on a standard definition TV. Too much Jack and not enough Kong. The Kong sections are amazing but need to be longer and some his animations are jerky and feel unfinished. The game is very short and can be completed in 6 or 7 hours by an average gamer. Also, the game is very linear as both Jack and Kong have very specific paths to follow.
Interesting Info
King Kong has been released on almost every platform including, XBOX, XBOX 360, PS2, GameCube, PSP, PC and DS. And if you have a fairly new computer, you can pick up the PC demo which consists on one Kong and one Jack level from the official website.
